Synopsis
Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1927, the author's lifechanged dramatically a year later, when his English immigrant parents took himand his sister on a visit to England, and never returned. He lived in Londonfor the next seventeen years, before claiming his American birthright byenlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following service in France andGermany, he was discharged in 1946, and settled in Reading, Pennsylvania. In 1999, as a family legacy, he decided to writeabout his unusual and sometimes hazardous English childhood, weaving into hisown life experiences, those important World War II events that were occurringat the same time. His 'Horatio Alger' life since returning to theUnited States, is a testament to the many 'only in America' opportunitiesthat he encountered, during the ensuing years. Clearly, his story was worthtelling, and is one that many will enjoy reading.

John Smither was educated in London, England. Heentered the insurance business in 1948 as an Underwriter-Trainee, and retiredin 1991 as a company President and Chief Operating Officer. He currentlyresides in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania with his wife Sally, a retiredregistered nurse, and their two cats.
