BACK IN THE DAY…a young boy’s interests may have focused on the enjoyment of toy trains. But those interests would have surely changed in the teenage years to cars and girls. My sister, Anarose, had purchased a red 1955 T-Bird in like-new condition a few years after they came out. I was the luckiest teenage boy around because she let me drive her T-Bird to my high school senior activities for one week in June of 1962. About the Author
LOU PALUMBO was born and raised in New Castle, PA, by Italian immigrant parents, and still lives there today with his wife Marcia. He has four children: Todd, Kelly, Michelle, and Melissa. He graduated from Youngstown University in 1967 with a degree in Psychology and Sociology, and was immediately employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. Lou then served as Executive Director of the Lawrence County Department of Welfare for 28 years until retiring in 2004. Lou opened The Underground Railroad Shoppe, a model train store, in 1985, and began writing articles and columns for various toy train publications starting in 1987. Since 2007, Lou has been writing a monthly column called “Views from the Underground” for "Classic Toy Trains" Magazine, and is known for his candid and constructive opinions of the toy train hobby, along with his famous “home spun” humor. Lou is also the author of "I Never Met a Train I Didn’t Like." His writings are both informative and entertaining for all readers.
