About this Item
One of a lovely series of classic books for young readers illustrated by famous artists of the day, here, Jessie Willcox Smith, who contributed the title page, decorative endpapers, front pastedown, & 8 full-color, full-page interior plates, all in near pristine condition! Story orig. published in book form in 1871, this is the FIRST EDITION with these illustrations from 1919 (First, thus), in 342 pages. With putty-colored cloth over boards, lettered in darker putty to spine, blue to front, along with a colorful paper pastedown by Smith, this hardcover (7.25" x 9.75") is in Good+/VG- condition: very clean, stitched text block secure, but front hinge cracked & repaired with clear tape by a previous owner. Pages creamy white with modest tanning to edge. Plates have clean white borders, strong colors. Old gift inscription, partially whited-out, inside front cover; else, pages all unmarked. Rubbing to extremities, bumped corners. Some edgewear to front pastedown. No DJ. A lovely edition for the plates alone! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping if ordered by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next day.
