Back in the USSA: Passionate Posts and Expatriate Notes

Some books inform. Others inspire. But every so often, a book comes along that both opens your eyes and stirs your soul—Back in the USSA is one of those rare treasures.

Boris Dragunsky’s journey is not merely a memoir; it is a bridge between two worlds and two eras woven with courage, longing, and an unflinching love for truth. From the haunting shadows of Stalin’s Soviet Union to the bright promise of the American dream, Dragunsky leads us through history with both the precision of a witness and the heart of a survivor. His recollections are steeped in a rich family legacy, most notably his uncle, Soviet Colonel General David Dragunsky a towering figure of loyalty, duty, and complexity.

But what makes this book so gripping is not just the history it’s the humanity. You feel the young Boris’s yearning to be free. You feel his quiet rebellion against a system that sought to define him, cage him, and erase parts of who he was. And you feel the triumph when, at 39, he finally breaks free, stepping onto American soil with both hope in his heart and fire in his convictions.

Yet, Dragunsky does not stop at celebration. In the third act of his journey, he turns his clear-eyed gaze toward his adopted homeland, a country he loves deeply but now sees trembling under ideological storms. With passionate, sometimes urgent prose, he warns of the dangers of forgetting history of letting freedom slip quietly away. His “posts and notes” read not as political rants, but as love letters to a nation he fears could lose its soul.

For readers who appreciate memoirs that are more than personal storytelling for those who want to feel history, taste the grit of human endurance, and wrestle with the questions that define freedom Back in the USSA is an essential read.
Boris Dragunsky doesn’t just tell his story. He shares his heart, his fears, and his unwavering belief that liberty is worth fighting for. It is, without question, a book that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
