Badman or Police

Delroy Brown grew up hungry — selling mangoes at his grandmother's gate, sewing his own shoes by lamplight, chasing a life bigger than his district could give him. Kingston gave him a uniform. A superintendent named Grant gave him a mission, and a new name.

As Danny Salmon, Delroy spends three years earning his way inside Arnett Gardens, into the trust of a don named Tuffhead, into a world of guns, drugs, and money too clean to be honest. He learns to survive in the Jungle. What he doesn't learn in time is that the man who sent him in wanted Tuffhead dead for reasons of his own — and a badge to hide behind when the blood hit the ground.

Framed for a murder he didn't commit, Delroy loses thirteen years before a foreign court finally sets him free. But freedom doesn't erase what's owed. A stolen ledger, a don's grieving brother, and a woman he never stopped loving pull him back into the one world he swore he'd never enter again — because the man who buried the truth never stopped rising.

Badman or Police is a work of fiction. Its characters, the events of its plot, and its institutions are entirely invented. It is set against the real backdrop of 1990s Jamaica — an era of garrison politics, posse warfare, and a police force with its own reputation for violence — but the story itself, and everyone in it, is fictional.
