Some later impressions of four volumes from the Badminton Library series of sporting books in the original publisher's uniform cloth bindings. The Badminton Library was a sporting project edited by Henry Somerset, 8th Duke of Beaufort in the late nineteenth century. A comprehensive series covering all major sports and pastimes. The present collection is comprised of three 1889 volumes beingShooting in two volumes (Field and MarshallandMoor and Marsh) by Lord Walsingham and Sir Ralph Payne-Gallwey the third edition, revised; Huntingby the Duke of Beaufort and Mowbray Morris, the sixth edition; and an 1898 volume ofGolf by Horace G. Hutchinson, the sixth edition. Illustrated in black and white both in text and in full page plates by a variety of artists, including Harry Furniss, Thomas Hodge, J Sturgess, and Harper Pennington among others. In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings.Externally sound with minor shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities of the boards. Previous ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper of Golf, dated 1900, verso front free endpaper of Hunting, dated 1890, and to verso front free endpaper vol. II of Shooting, undated. William Hicks' bookplate to front pastedown to volume I of Shooting. Internally, binding generally firm. Minor spotting scattered to the occasional leaf. Illustrated with frontispiece to each volume, full page plates and other illustrations in text in black and white. Very Good.…
