Bandboxes and Shopping Bags in the Collection of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum

Near fine condition. The catalog shows only the lightest evidence of handling and presents beautifully overall. The stapled wraps remain bright and clean, with minimal surface wear and faint toning along the spine fold. The front cover image—featuring a patriotic early 19th-century bandbox and a modernist shopping bag—is vivid and unmarred, with a tiny penciled price notation in the upper right corner. The rear wrapper, depicting the Cooper-Hewitt Museum façade, shows a few minor handling impressions but no staining or tears. The interior pages are crisp, smooth, and entirely unmarked, with sharp black-and-white reproductions throughout and no signs of foxing or fading. The staples are unrusted and secure, and the binding is tight. A well-preserved example of this 1978 Smithsonian Institution publication documenting decorative packaging design and consumer ephemera, particularly appealing to collectors of museum exhibition catalogs and American graphic design history.
