In the newest Barbie movie, Barbie plays Merliah, a popular surfing sensation at her Malibu high school. But everything changes when her hair starts turning pink and she can suddenly breathe underwater at a surfing competition. Then she meets a dolphin named Zuma who reveals that Merliah is actually a mermaid princess. Merliah's mother, Queen Calissa, has been imprisoned by her evil sister Eris and the underwater mermaid kingdom of Oceana is in dire trouble. Merliah will need the help of her above water friends via her cool waterproof cell phone and her new underwater friends to save her mother and all of Oceana. But to do so she'll have find the mermaid within herself first and learn that what makes her different might just be her greatest strength!
