The Baron's Gambit

The Baron’s Gambit

Luksi Boudreaux only wanted to be left alone.

A former cavalry captain turned sheep farmer, he lives quietly on the edge of the Ragnarian Territory with his orc partner Grak and the ghosts of the family he lost. He keeps his head down, tends his flock, and stays far from the politics and cruelty of Disthaven.

Until auction day.

When a young elf woman named Liri is dragged onto the slave block, Luksi does the one thing he swore he wouldn’t do again... he interferes. One reckless bid later, he owns a life he never asked for and makes an enemy of the most powerful man in the territory: Cattle Baron Isaac Crampbull.

What begins as an act of stubborn conscience quickly becomes a war.

As Crampbull tightens his grip on the town, Luksi is forced to choose between the quiet life he built and the fight he can no longer avoid. Alongside a sharp-tongued former saloon girl, a loyal orc with a bloody past, and the elf who is slowly becoming far more than a housemaid, Luksi must decide what he’s willing to lose to stop a man who believes everything—and everyone, can be bought.

In a land where the law serves the powerful and freedom is a fragile thing, one reluctant shepherd will discover that some gambits cost more than gold.

And some may cost everything.
