Antes de escribir "La barraca", Blasco Ib��ez hab�a participado en m�tines y altercados callejeros y hab�a sido condenado en un consejo de guerra a cuatro a�os de prisi�n. En marzo de 1898 fue elegido diputado por Cullera en reconocimiento de sus servicios en favor de los oprimidos. "La barraca" es el alegato de la vida dura e injusta que los habitantes de la huerta valenciana han de soportar frente a los propietarios ociosos de la ciudad.

Vicente Blasco Ib��ez (1867 – 1928) fue un escritor, periodista y pol�tico espa�ol. Un autor muy prol�fico vinculado en muchos aspectos al naturalismo franc�s. Su vigorosa imaginaci�n y poder descriptivo hicieron de Vicente Blasco Ib��ez el �ltimo gran autor del realismo decimon�nico. Su obra ha tenido una gran proyecci�n internacional, y toca g�neros que van desde la novela social hasta la de aventuras, pasando por las de exaltaci�n hist�rica y los libros de viajes.
