N�e en 1914 pr�s de Saigon (Cochinchine), d'une m�re institutrice et d'un p�re professeur de math�matiques, Marguerite Donnadieu se fixe d�finitivement en France en 1932. Elle se marie avec Robert Antelme en 1939 et publie son premier roman (Les impudents), sous le pseudonyme de Marguerite Duras, en 1943. R�sistante pendant la guerre, communiste jusqu'en 1950, ayant activement particip� � Mai 68, Marguerite Duras a d�velopp� une �criture prot�iforme consid�rable (cin�ma, th��tre, articles de presse, romans et r�cits). Elle est d�c�d�e le 3 mars 1996 � Paris.
