This format #3 (as per Mattson & Davis: gray cloth, blue lettering, frontis only, eps=standard Cupples book plate) book is in VG condition. It has a slight lean but is very clean, with no corner bumps or edge dings; heel and heel of the spine are very lightly bumped without fabric damage. Upper and lower edges of both boards show very little wear and there is no fabric deterioration. The interior is completely free of writing, stray marks and page damage; the only stains in the book are at the hinges of the end pages (see photo). Hinges are quite strong and undamaged and the lightly toned paper is quite flexible. The VG- jacket has small chips and folds at the head of the spine, a short tear at the bottom of the rear panel, color loss at the bottom of the front gutter and along the bottom edge of the front panel, and tiny chips at the front corners (see photos).
