Geological mapping cannot be taught solely by means of lectures and laboratory classes-it must be learned in the field. Basic Geological Mapping is a concise guide to techniques used for constructing accurate geological maps, and is designed to be of greatest use in the field. Accurate geological maps are the basis of all geological work, and therefore no piece of geological mapping can be considered complete until the geology has been interpreted and explained. In addressing this, there are chapters within this field guide on drawing cross-sections, drafting and presenting 'fair copy' maps, and on preparing geological diagrams from field work suitable for inclusion in reports. This revised and updated volume includes a new section on vegetational guides to underlying rocks and an appendix on the use of the plane table in geological mapping.
