Bathsheba begins to believe that every disaster occurring in their lives is the direct result of her adultery. It is only when she accepts the love of God that Bathsheba is able to forgive herself and become happy in her marriage. The portrait of Bathsheba is both insightful and perceptive. Shott continues to render biblical figures human enough to provide guidance to modern readers. A solid historical novel.
