A baker's dozen of early "New Look" Batman stories here get deluxe hardcover reprinting. These mid-1960s creations show DC revitalizing its flagship character by aiming at an older audience and bringing in better writers and artists, including the era's most stylish superhero illustrator, Carmine Infantino. While the more complex plotlines and slicker artwork were a vast improvement over the infantile, mediocre stories that preceded them, the Batman they depict remains a one-dimensional Boy Scout compared with the grim, obsessed figure he would later become.
