About this Item

Red cloth boards with gilt lettering on cover / no dj. Clean tight boards/spine with bright gilt, minimal rubbing of corners/spine, though cloth heavily flecked along spine and edges of boards, back eps creased/crinkled, otherwise light toning of clean, unmarked deckled pages with gilt top edge. Pp 157, roster . To counter Sherman's march to the sea, General Price had raised an Army of nearly 30,00 confederate soldiers to capture St Louis and Fort Leavenworth. The book chronicles how, in a matter of days, a militia of 12,000 inexperienced and untrained free-staters was raised, equipped and deployed up and down the Kansas-Missouri border; how a group of 2,500 deployed themselves 8-miles inside the Missouri border on the banks of the Blue River to blunt Price's march; and, how remaining militia troops deployed along the border continued attacks as Price's Army moved south until it simply disappeared. An intriguing read and possibly only book describing the Battle of the Blue and end of Price's march. . Dornbusch I, Kansas 255 . Bookseller Inventory # 000126
