Popular edition of the second of four volumes of the series "Battles and Leaders of the Civil War." The series grew out of articles published the 1880s in Century Magazine, written by participants in the war itself. These first-hand accounts, written by generals down to captains, along with civilians and wives, provide a remarkable history of the war years, along with insights into the character of the men who led the war effort. Another edition of these four volumes published by Castle in the 1950s had different subtitles for each volume. This edition was apparently published in the 1980s and 1990s, also by Castle, but with new subtitles on the dust jacket for each volume. (The subtitles are not on the facsimile reproduced text.) 760 pages, with hundreds of engraved illustrations and 53 maps. 6¾ x 9½ inches. With the exception of a very small tear to the dust jacket at the upper right front corner, the book is in nearly new condition. Sales tax will be added to all California orders.

Volume 2 opens with the siege and capture of Fort Pulaski, the capture of New Orleans, and a summary of operations in the far southwest. It covers the Peninsular Campaign, the battles of Yorktown, Williamsburg, Manassas, and Seven Pines.
