Baubles From Bones: Issue 1

From the intergalactic, to the apocalyptic, and to the ballroom, Baubles From Bones: Issue 1 presents a collection of stories and poetry across the speculative spectrum.

Here you'll find a rebellion sparked by a beloved sorcerer's death, an alien's musical loneliness, perseverance in asteroid mining, and love torn across spacetime. We have queer love and a politicking priest, a teenage girl coming out to a slime demon, and the shimmering tail of a skyfish illuminating distant love. Alongside these stories, where beasts dine on delicious trash, we also have a climate-crisis-inspired retelling of Johnny Appleseed, as well as a tale about homelessness and running from the fuzz with Jesus Christ.

Featuring some of the best and most talented up and coming science fiction and fantasy writers, Baubles From Bones: Issue 1 is a showcase of self-discovery in uncertain times.

The Baubles From Bones editorial team is made up of three human beings with full-time jobs unrelated to their college degrees or this publication. Their names are Shane Gallaher, Elyse Leskovic, and Joel Troutman. Together they hold degrees in writing, literature, and audio engineering, have a couple publishing credits of their own, and have won small awards for their work. If not out exploring Pittsburgh's bookstores and cafes, they can often be found huddled over laptops in their living room, where this zine is put together.
