Baxter the Cat

Baxter the Cat is a heartfelt, psychology-informed guide that helps readers see trauma through a new lens.

Inspired by the true story of Baxter-a frightened feral kitten who taught her owner far more than she ever expected-Licensed Mental Health Therapist Nicole "Nikki" Roth invites readers to look beyond behaviors and begin asking a different question: not "What's wrong?" but "What happened?"

Told through Baxter's perspective, this gentle and engaging book introduces the foundations of trauma, attachment, safety, trust, emotional regulation, and healing in a way that is accessible to parents, caregivers, foster and adoptive families, educators, and helping professionals alike. Rather than focusing on changing behavior, Baxter the Cat encourages readers to understand the experiences that shape it. With warmth, compassion, and hope, Nikki demonstrates how patience, consistency, and safe relationships can become powerful catalysts for healing.

The first book in the Baxter the Cat series, Baxter the Cat offers an encouraging beginning for anyone seeking to better understand children impacted by trauma-and the extraordinary resilience that can grow when they are met with empathy, connection, and unconditional care.
