About the Author
Body Image Expert, Professional Hype Girl, CEO of SwagHER Fitness LLC and of Pigeon Toed Publishing LLC, Yaisa Mann is leading the way blending body image and inspiration to empower girls and women. Yaisa created and taught the first course in body image ever taught at the University of Oklahoma in 2008 starting with the course Body Image versus Reality: Popular Culture and the Beauty Myth; she was selected to be featured in the 40th Anniversary Edition of Our Bodies, Ourselves (2011); was selected to be featured in the National Eating Disorders Association Awareness Month Calendar Campaign (2013) for her body image advocacy; was selected to be a speaker for the Great Night of the Orators at the University of Oklahoma (2013); won the University of Oklahoma Inaugural Brightest Idea Speaker Symposium Contest (2013) and was invited to serve as a board member for the Oklahoma Eating Disorders Association (2014). Her interest in body image came directly out of her own personal experiences with her brown skin color, curly and frizzy hair texture with lots of shrinkage, pigeon toed walk, junk food binge eating, battle with maintaining a healthy weight and overall struggle with self-acceptance and being who God made her to be. Although she has struggled to see her own beauty feeling the pressure from cultural influences like the color complex and media pressures, she has always felt empowered and free to live by her own rules through dance and writing. Her passion for dance inspired her to start her own women’s wellness SwagHER Fitness. In order to promote a healthy self esteem and body image in girls and women SwagHER Fitness incorporates popular and effective workouts like Zumba and boot camp. Equally important, writing is another passion for Yaisa. She created Pigeon Toed Publishing LLC to help girls and women to walk into womanhood to find love and purpose in God through books and resources. The vision of Pigeon Toed, LLC is that girls and women love themselves and their bodies celebrating their individuality and the diversity of beauty. A California native, Yaisa currently resides in the Norman, OK with her family. Her children Jalen, Josiah, and Jael are her inspiration and her joy.
