Beacon in the Mist

Daniel Evans has spent a year keeping to the edges of life. A widower in a small Maine town, he fills his days with silence and routine, haunted by the memory of scattering his wife's ashes from a cliff above the Atlantic. The lighthouse beam sweeps across the water each night, but it has not been enough to guide him out of grief.

Then, on the same windswept headland, he meets Iris Caldwell. Younger, rooted in town by her grandmother's failing health, she carries her own history of loss and resilience. With her sketchbook balanced on her knees and the sea always before her, she offers Daniel something he had not expected to find again: companionship, understanding, and the quiet possibility of love.

As the seasons turn, Daniel must learn whether memory and hope can live side by side, whether he can honour the past without being bound by it. From the fog-bound cliffs to the farmers' market on Main Street, from the echo of Rachel's pottery in his hands to the laughter he begins to share with Iris, his world slowly begins to open.

Beacon in the Mist is a tender novel about grief, renewal, and the courage it takes to step back into the light.

Lefki Karantoni has always been fascinated by words. From an early age, she tried to shape the ideas swimming in her mind into stories she could share with others. Though she now lives in England and has travelled widely, she is always Greek at heart. That sense of heritage and belonging forms her love for coastal settings, whether she is writing about small American towns, sunlit islands, or the emotional landscapes of her characters. She continues to explore many genres, guided by a love of language and a desire to connect with readers through the worlds she creates.
