About the Author
The journey that led to this book was not born from dissatisfaction, but from deep commitment-a commitment to the original promise of sociocracy: equivalence, participation, and shared power. For years, I supported organizations, communities, and learning groups eager to adopt sociocracy. What I witnessed, however, was a recurring pattern: while the formal structure of sociocracy was in place, the lived experience often fell short of its intentions. Nested circles and double linking, though well-intentioned, often recreated subtle hierarchies and centralized influence under new names. Many people sensed this gap, even if they couldn't always name it. They complied with process, but felt disempowered to initiate. They participated, but lacked meaningful agency across the whole. Sociocracy, as practiced, sometimes allowed equivalence in theory but failed to operationalize it at scale-especially when coordination, vision, or purpose crossed circle boundaries. This book proposes a shift-not a rejection of sociocracy, but an evolution beyond its current structural limits. The Bearing Governance Model (BGM) was born from the need to create a structurally coherent, non-hierarchical framework where equivalence is not only preserved locally, but held across all circles through the Circle Constellation. In BGM, Full Equivalence-both for members and for circles-is embedded in the structure itself. It does not depend on the promises of those with seniority, charisma, or even expertise.
