The Beatitudes Of Jesus: Vesper Addresses On The Octave Of Blessedness by James Wilmer Gresham is a collection of eight vesper addresses delivered at Trinity Church, San José, California, and at the Church Divinity School in San Mateo. The work offers a systematic meditation on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, focusing on the eight beatitudes and their interrelated themes: poverty of spirit, mourning, meekness, hunger and thirst for righteousness, mercy, purity of heart, peacemaking, and persecution for righteousness' sake. With introductory words by the Bishop of California, the volume presents the Kingdom of Heaven as the overarching concept that underlies the Beatitudes and traces the spiritual progression from inward dispositions to outward acts of justice, mercy, and reconciliation. Gresham argues that the Beatitudes form a coherent sequence, each steeped in scriptural imagery and parables, guiding readers toward a life that reflects Christ-like teachings. Originally published in 1908; this edition is a modern reprint intended to preserve the 1908 text.
