Reviews
This is a slick, heavily illustrated, but superficial guide to the Beatles. The author quickly bounces from one brief chapter to another--with titles like "Beatle Biographies and Beatle People," "The Beatles on Film," "The Beatles on Record," and "The Beatles on Stage"--without discussing any topic in depth. This is basically a rehash of well-known stories, events, and facts. All the information is covered elsewhere in such works as Tim Riley's Tell Me Why: A Beatles Commentary (Knopf, 1988), Mark Lewisohn's The Beatles Live! ( LJ 11/15/86), and Allen J. Wiener's The Beatles: A Recording History ( LJ 2/1/87). With over 60 Beatle books now in print, this is not an essential purchase.-- Debora Richey, California State Univ.
