Mama hangs a painting of some sort in the living room. Mei doesn't think it is nice at all because it's all in black, unlike her colorful crayon drawings. However, Mama seems to treasure it dearly. Before Grandma's birthday, Mama, Mei and little brother Andrew decide to each create a painting for Grandma as her birthday gifts. Mama seems to be only copying the same odd painting hanging in the living room. So Mei is certain that Grandma will like their crayon drawings better. But to Mei's surprise, Grandma seems to adore Mama's black painting even more.

About the Author

Yajuan Lu is a native “ Beijinger.” She graduated from Peking University Health Science Center, and later obtained her Juris Doctor degree from University of Pittsburgh in the U.S. She has two lovely children, Mei and Andrew. Her frequent travels between the U.S. and China led her to believe that her children will benefit from a deep understanding of both cultures, and she thought the best way to build them is through reading. She has now published two children’ s books. Li Jian has a B.A. in Chinese painting from Hebei Normal University. Formerly a middle school art teacher and children’ s book editor, he currently owns his own illustration studio, focusing on stories for children.
