Edward Schmidt was a manager at the New York State Department of Transportation for sixteen years. While there, he oversaw the key project to create the New York State Department of Transportation's first electronic consultant-selection system. This was important because consultants designed about half of the highways and bridges to be built. He then took on the role of managing two groups involved in hiring consultants.
After receiving great feedback from other managers and employees, he decided to write this guidebook to help managers establish positive relationships and workplaces.
Schmidt has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
