Sakach has authored seven books on bed and breakfasts including 60 custom editions of Bed & Breakfast and Country Inns, nine editions of The Official Guide to American Historic Inns, and three Editions of the Bed & Breakfast Encyclopedia. Her Official Guide to American Historic Inns was a Book of the Month Club selection for several years. For 24 years she has successfully promoted the history and charm of the Bed & Breakfast industry, while creating key business relationships with which to reach millions of consumers each year. Most uniquely, Deborah maintains affiliations with large consumer goods companies to provide co-promotions that benefit innkeepers, consumers and consumer products alike. Sakach taught classes for several years in the California University System on starting and operating a bed and breakfast inn and has contributed travel articles to magazines including Family Circle, Good Housekeeping. She grew up in Northern Ohio, her parents, a school teacher and labor union leader. She graduated from Redlands University with a BS in Business and from Trinity College with an MA in Counseling Psychology. Ms. Sakach worked in PR for the Pasadena Rose Parade, and in direct mail for a large ad agency specializing in non-profit organizations, Russ Reid Company with clients such as Habitat, World Vision, and Unicef before launching her bed and breakfast enterprise. Sakach has enjoyed traveling in Europe, Africa, Asia, and throughout the United States, invariably to stay at small inns.
