Item description from seller

Octavo. No. 842 of 950 Copies. Publisher's maroon half cloth over brown paper covered boards, titled in gilt to spine with a maroon and gilt cloth label to the front board. [ix]; [1]; 283pp. Strong and ship-shape, very light wear, a couple of spots of soiling to the front board and some oxidization of the gilt; internally clean and fresh, colour frontis., illustrated throughout with plates and folding charts. A very good, smart copy indeed. A collection of reminiscences gleaned from the diaries of a merchant seaman during the golden age of the clipper ships, when they were the fastest mode of transport on the planet, charting cargo voyages to India, around The Horn, and the South Seas, with charts and a wealth of period detail, assembled by a Lt. Commander in the US Navy.
