Before You Remember Me (Paperback)

Paperback. In the small harbor town of Bellweather, everybody can see that Jacob Mercer still loves Ruby. What they cannot see is the private archive he carries inside him - every joke she forgot, every habit she lost, every piece of a life their daughter Willow can never fully be told.Five years ago, Jacob donated part of himself to save Ruby's life. She survived. Their marriage did not. The medical procedure that kept her breathing erased every memory of their years together, leaving Jacob to maintain the fiction that they are simply business partners running Cove Road Inn - while raising the daughter Ruby does not remember bearing, protecting the woman he still loves from the knowledge that could kill her, and watching her build a future that does not include him. When a school assignment, a Thanksgiving season, and a kind new man named Peter bring everything to the surface, Jacob's careful balance begins to fail. The inn keeps demanding maintenance. Willow keeps getting older. Ruby keeps choosing her own life. And the thing Jacob has carried alone for five years grows heavier with every ordinary morning. Before You Remember Me is a luminous, emotionally devastating novel about memory, fatherhood, sacrifice, and the brave, painful shape of real love - the kind that keeps doing what it was trained to do long after it has lost the reason.Love remembers, even when memory does not.
