Half leather with marbled boards and endpapers. 393 pp. A novel reflecting on the experiences of a young writer, perhaps drawing on the author's personal life. Rhoda Broughton was a 19th century, early 20th century British novelist, publishing popular fiction in the three decker form, as well as work well-received by both critics and her peers. Two bookplates present: an armorial one from John Wynford, Baron St. Davids; and another circular bookplate from R.D. Jackson. GOOD condition. General fading and minor soiling to the covers. Moderate to heavy scuffing to the covers, especially along the extremities and spine. The spine has heavy superficial flaking and deterioration to the leather. Front hinge split and cracked along the entire length. Minor toning in the interior.
