Beginner's Guide To Getting Published

Articles offer advice to would-be journalists, short story writers, poets, cartoonists, playwrights, and columnists, discussing manuscript marketing, copyright, and income taxes

Beginner's Guide to Getting Published starts with inspirational stories (take for example the encouraging title "The Writing Life Begins at Forty"), then moves quickly to the pragmatic and concrete, from preparing manuscripts to the essential query letter. The editors of Writer's Digest address finding a market, starting with newspaper fillers, book reviews, and greeting cards, as you build your clip file. They carefully lead you from local weeklies and the magazine market to the big time, with tips on editor etiquette, resale possibilities, and going national. This well-written guide is insightful, not patronizing in the least, and inordinately useful.
