IN THE BEGINNING WAS I

In the Beginning Was I is a haunting fantasia of self-discovery, love, and longing-where dreams blur into memory, and truth lies hidden between silence and shadow.

Spanning the windswept streets of California, the timeless cafés of Paris, the ancient alleys of Damascus, and the turbulent soul of Beirut, Mahmoud Farra crafts a lyrical meditation on identity, purpose, and the aching mystery of human connection. At once philosophical and psychological, this novel dives deep into the subconscious, unraveling the delicate threads that bind a man and a woman, past and present, self and soul.

At its core is a nameless narrator-an exile of sorts-not just from place, but from certainty, from belonging, from himself. When a chance encounter with a woman who seems to know more about him than he does himself stirs something long buried, he is compelled into a journey both across continents and into the depths of his own fractured psyche.

What begins as a search for lost time becomes a reckoning with memory, trauma, and the inner voices we silence. Through cryptic journals, surreal dreams, and whispered conversations, the lines between reality and illusion blur-revealing that sometimes, the greatest mystery is not in what we've forgotten, but in what we've chosen not to see.

In the Beginning Was I is a love story. A mystery. A mirror. A map. It is for those who have ever felt like a stranger to themselves, for those haunted by questions without answers, and for anyone brave enough to ask: Who were we before the world named us?v
