Das Enzyklopadische Handbuch der Behindertenpadagogik ''Behinderung, Bildung, Partizipation'' tritt mit dem Anspruch auf, das Gesamtgebiet der Behindertenpadagogik hinsichtlich ihrer konstitutiven Begriffe, Aufgaben und Problemstellungen, Konzepte und Handlungsansatze darzustellen. Dabei wird der grundlegende, auf aktuellen Wissensbestanden beruhende Forschungs- und Entwicklungsstand der Disziplin aus interdisziplinarer Perspektive berucksichtigt. Getragen von einem Bildungsverstandnis, das Bildung als Moglichkeit zur selbst bestimmten Lebensfuhrung, zur umfassenden Personlichkeitsentwicklung und gesellschaftlichen Teilhabe betrachtet, werden in 10 Banden mit mehr als 400 Einzelartikeln die Grundfragen nach Bildung und Partizipation angesichts behindernden Bedingungen geklart. Im Mittelpunkt von Band 2 steht die Kategorie Behinderung, die durchgangig in der Perspektive von ''Partizipation und Anerkennung'' unter sozial- und kulturwissenschaftlichen, ethischen und rechtlichen Aspekten betrachtet wird. Die Auseinandersetzung mit grundlegenden Dimensionen von sozialer und personaler Anerkennung, aber auch historische, philosophische, psychologische und sozialwissenschaftliche Analysen von Mechanismen, die zu Diskriminierung und sozialem Ausschluss fuhren, zeichnen ein fundiertes sozial- und humanwissenschaftliches Bild von Behinderung als sozialer Konstruktion. Eine vergleichbar interdisziplinare sowie kompakte Bestandsaufnahme und Diskussion humanwissenschaftlicher Grundlagen der Behindertenpadagogik liegt bisher nicht vor.
