12mo. Vol. I: xiii, 199. Vol. II: (1-11), 12-247. Both volumes with black and white frontis. with tissue guard. Both volumers profusely illustrated with black and white photography. Index. Top edge gilt. Fore-edge untrimmed. Both volumes partially unopened. Bound in olive green decorated gilt-stamped front covers with a heraldic design involving lions and the tricolor of Belgium. Slight, superficial scuff to rear cover of the first volume, and another light scuff to cover of second volume. Spines a trifle darkened. A sturdy, well preserved set. Allen's work first appeared in Grant Richards guide series,one volume, in 1897. His work, with heavy emphasis on Belgian art history, is presented here in an exquisite two volume set, charmingly produced with handsome covers. Bookseller inventory A042028S.
