BellBoy - The Man Who Built Fire from Ash: An Orphan's Grit, a Matchstick Dream, and the Empire He Lit

He was orphaned, illiterate, and unwanted—even by the church that sheltered him.

But when Arun was cast out with nothing but a few rupees and a craving for a cigarette, he made a decision that would ignite a movement.

BellBoy is a powerful rags-to-riches novel set in the gritty streets of 1990s Kolkata. It follows the raw, relentless rise of a man who built an underground empire from scratch, starting with a single cigarette stall outside the very church that once let him go.

From ringing bells to ringing cash registers, Arun's journey is one of fierce entrepreneurship, found family, and the brutal honesty of survival.

But when a young reporter asks him the one question he never expected, his answer reveals the haunting simplicity of his ambition.

“What would you have done if you were literate?”
“I’d still be ringing that church bell.”

S.B. Singh’s debut novel is a raw, heart-pounding tribute to the forgotten, the underestimated, and those who light fire with nothing but ash.

This is for fans of grit, hustle, and stories that don’t wait for permission.
