At the conclusion of Unconquered, the first book of the Planet of Perpetual Peace trilogy, Canadian teenager Victoria survives a perilous journey to China to reunite with her biological parents. Along the way, she uncovers some of China's most mysterious historical secrets. As life returns to normal for Victoria back in Canada, a confluence of disasters suddenly pummels Earth, a premonition of the Armageddon about to befall humanity. An immense armada from the red giant Betelgeuse has arrived at the Kuiper Belt. It carries hundreds of millions of female warriors intent on exterminating all humans on Earth and colonizing the planet.
With the help of a dimension-tunnelling catoptron, Victoria visits the paradise planet Shangria, where an ingenious one-eyed warrior ends the Endless War. However, the tragic hero inadvertently creates a temporal rift, which threatens to tear the universe apart. The trouble at Shangria reaches Earth through Betelgeuse, where a descendant race of Shangria, female warriors known as Amazons, overturns their planet's patriarchal rule and, by a twist of fate, discovers Earth as prime real estate for a colony.
After an Amazon warrior ambushes her, Victoria is trapped in the labyrinth of the past. She must find a way to travel back to the future, as she is the only one who can stop the alien invasion and reverse the temporal rift. To escape her predicament, Victoria visits the author of Dream of the Red Chamber, one of China's four greatest classical novels, and unlocks some of its most enigmatic mysteries, one of which helps her return to the present timeline.
Halfway on her journey back to face the aliens, Victoria stops by the Danube to witness an invincible general, an early founder of Canada, win a decisive victory in one of the greatest battles ever fought. She realizes what she treasures most and refuses to abandon the human race, even though she has little chance of saving it. Will Victoria risk everything on a fool's errand? To find out, carpe liber-seize the book!
