Brown-gray cloth over boards; burgundy title plate on spine with gilt lettering. BW frontispiece + xxxii; 47 pp + 59 BW plates. Among the numerous early accounts of Pligrimages to the Holy Land, the narrative of Bernhard von Breydenbach, Dean of Mainz, stands pre-eminent as the first to be printed with views of the places seen en route. These localities--from Venice to Mount Sinai--familiar to every pilgrim of the period, were here delineated for the first time according to Nature and Truth by an artist of considerable ability, whose services the Dean was fortunate enough to be able to secure. - Excerpt from Introduction. This book is number 200 of 200 copies printed in 1911. A beautiful copy with few flaws. G+. Ex-library with usual marks. Stamp and blind stamp (from library) on title page. Shelf wear on covers with bumped corners. Pencil writing on front pastedown/stamps on rear pastedown. Endpapers significantly tanned. One blank page removed from binding. Some spots of foxing throughout, especially in gutters. A few minor rips on page edges, as well as subtle creases; minor ink smudges. One illustration covered by glassine sheet that is heavily tanned and ripped; illustration has tanning impressions from glassine. Seller Inventory # 163905
