Discusses such subjects as building self-esteem, getting a fix on personal goals, strengthening and showcasing positive attributes, connecting pay to performance, and incentives that work
Reviews:
This is not one of those "self-improvement" books that beckon to a royal road that doesn't exist, or mislead readers into thinking that success is to be attained by the adoption of a few simple slogans and the practice of a few easy rules. It is direct, forceful, realistic, and it makes no empty promises. Attitudes toward work, oneself, and others are discussed with the purpose of making clear which attitudes will foster success and good relationships, and how these attitudes may be cultivated. Among the topics are the importance of recognizing one's own and others' strengths, learning how to listen and say "thank you" to subordinates, and dealing with drug and alcohol problems. Well worth considering for a business/self help collection. A. J. Anderson, Graduate Sch. of Library & Information Science, Simmons Coll., Boston
