It uses the life lessons of my grandmother, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, and connects her incredible accomplishments to some of the strong women of today. Her humanity is proof that no matter the obstacles, we can accomplish extraordinary things if we believe in ourselves and the power of God. Her parents were enslaved in this country and educating black people was illegal in many states, yet Mary McLeod Bethune followed the path that God laid before her, garnered and formal education, learned from those around her, and took advantage of the opportunities that she felt would not only move her forward but lift her people. Her accomplishments not only made Black people better by providing access to resources but also made the entire country a better place for all people to live.
