Betrayed Butterfly

Aran views the world through a terminal. As an elite programmer and hacker, he was taught that life is just a complex program—one that can fail, but one where he can always find the bugs. He and his wife, Noella, are the picture of success in sunny Santa Monica, but Aran is about to learn that even the most flawless code has a back door.

When Noella vanishes during a trip to Abu Dhabi, the only trace left behind is a chilling text: “I will likely have to leave to stay alive.”

Digging through the wreckage of his marriage, Aran discovers an orange box—the first thing Noella wanted packed—and within it, a stack of passports for “Imaya Dias.” It’s a woman who shares his wife’s face, but none of her history. Aran isn't just fighting a failing marriage; he is up against a "Family Unit" operating like a global syndicate.

As Aran uses AI to sharpen his skills and hunt for the truth, the horrifying reality clicks into place during a high-stakes divorce hearing. When a mysterious loan guarantor suddenly appears on the Zoom call, Aran realizes the ultimate glitch: Why would a guarantor attend a divorce unless the person involved was actually the asset being secured?

Caught between a double life and a professional hitman, Aran must decode the final bug: Was Noella ever really his wife, or was she always just their asset?

A gritty, atmospheric Tech-Noir thriller that explores the dark intersection of hacking culture, psychological suspense, and organized betrayal.

Readers of Mr. Robot, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and high-stakes conspiracy thrillers will find themselves obsessed with the "Life as Code" world of Betrayed Butterfly.
