The author of many monographs, edited collections, and essays, Seyed Javad Miri has been a major influence in social sciences and humanities. His significant contributions disrupted prevailing narratives surrounding critical issues, including nationality, identity, secularism, religion, and modernity. In Beyond Eurocentric Social Theory: The Nomadic Intellectual on Religion, Culture and the State, the contributors illustrate different dimensions of Seyed Javad Miri’s oeuvre and demonstrate how his scholarship bridge the Eastern and Western intellectual traditions and foster a dialogue at the global level between Iranian intellectual history, Islamic philosophy and Western social theory.

Esmaeil Zeiny, Ph.D. (2013) is a Visiting Scholar at the School of English, Communication and Philosophy, Cardiff University. He has authored numerous articles on the issues of identity, representation, and gender in literature and has published papers on coloniality and decolonization of knowledge. Amongst his latest publications is a co-edited volume entitled Feminine Visibility in Contemporary Iran: Women, Religion, Culture and the State (Brill, 2019, with Seyed Javad Miri).

Dustin J. Byrd, Ph.D. (2017), Michigan State University, is Professor of Philosophy and Religion at The University of Olivet. He is the Founder and Co-Director of the Institute for Critical Social Theory, and the Editor-in-Chief of Ekpyrosis Press. He has published numerous monographs, edited volumes, and articles on Islam, Critical Theory, and Political Philosophy. His latest books include: The Frankfurt School and the Dialectics of Religion: Translating Critical Faith into Critical Theory (Ekpyrosis Press, 2020), The Critique of Religion and Religion’s Critique: On Dialectical Religiology (Brill, 2020), and Frantz Fanon and Emancipatory Social Theory: A View from the Wretched (Brill, 2020).
