Beyond the Fast: Cultivating a Repentant Heart (Paperback or Softback)

Reverend Dr. Noel Holder, AA, is a celebrated televangelist, senior pastor, advocate, and author. He has spent his professional life studying how Christians can evolve into the best possible versions of themselves, and he has thus concluded that through intentional fasting and prayer, devout Christians can develop more intimate relationships with God. And once they feel closer to God, Christians will become more well-rounded, empathetic, and thoughtful people. This journey won’t be easy, and it won’t happen overnight, but with this book, Christians will learn how they can effectively—and healthily—incorporate fasting and prayer into their daily lives.

To start, Dr. Holder delves into the long history of fasting, explaining how it can lead to spiritual enlightenment and personal fulfillment. Though fasting is present in most of the world’s major religions, Dr. Holder focuses specifically on Christianity, using stories from the Bible to illustrate the purposes of the practice. He also explores the different types of fasting, detailing their intrinsic benefits. Intermittent fasting, for instance, can improve blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and increase overall energy, and the experience will help Christians connect with God—and themselves. Furthermore, by limiting their use of social media, practicing abstinence, consuming less television, and staying in instead of going out, Christians can learn how to become more comfortable in their own company, and they can use that extra time to get more in touch with their faith. Indeed, Dr. Holder emphasizes the importance of moderation, noting how these small changes can drastically bolster one’s self-esteem and mood.

If you wish to develop a better relationship with God and learn the true meaning of repentance, then this is the book for you. Furthermore, if you’ve ever felt like you have an unhealthy relationship with media, technology, sex, food, or alcohol, then this book will help you gain the tools you need to become less dependent on these substances. Take control of your spiritual, physical, and mental well-being today. Fear not; Dr. Holder is here to help you every step of the way.
