About the Author: Sharon Hartman Strom is a professor emerita in the Department of History at the University of Rhode Island. She is the author of Fortune, Fame and Desire: Promoting the Self in the Long Nineteenth Century and Political Woman: Florence Luscomb and the Legacy of Radical Reform.
