The Bible Douay-Rheims Book 02: Exodus

Exodus begins with the Israelites suffering under Pharaoh's oppression. In response, God chooses Moses, a Hebrew raised in the Egyptian royal household, to lead His people out of slavery. After a series of plagues afflict Egypt, culminating in the death of the firstborn, Pharaoh finally relents and allows the Israelites to depart. The narrative emphasizes God's power and faithfulness, demonstrated through the miraculous events that secure the Israelites' freedom. Once free, the Israelites embark on their journey to the Promised Land, guided by God through Moses. They encounter numerous challenges, including the parting of the Red Sea and the provision of manna in the wilderness. At Mount Sinai, God gives Moses the Ten Commandments, establishing a covenant with His people. The book highlights themes of liberation, divine intervention, and the importance of obedience to God's laws, forming a foundational narrative for Jewish and Christian faiths.
