Item description from seller

v, [1], 68, [14], Appendix: Directory of Addresses of Specialized Agencies and Organizations. Index. Name of compiler on the title page underlined in ink. Slight cover wear and soiling. This is USMA Library Bulletin No. 14A. Foreword by Egon A. Weiss, the Librarian of the United States Military Academy. This third edition updates USMA Library Bulletins Numbers 7 and 14 issued in 1969 and 1975 respectively This new edition of the bulletin is designed to facilitate access to a wider scope of sources in this discipline. This annotated military history bibliography has been prepared to aid researchers. In this third edition, several categories, including "order of battles", 'abstracts', 'lineages', 'statistics', and 'guide books' have been added to broaden the scope and usefulness of this bibliography. Items selected for inclusion are mostly in English, contain reliable information, and are available in many large libraries. Thus, it does not claim to be exhaustive, but it is intended to be an effective research aide for ROTC students, cadets, faculty, historians and other researchers. Egon Arthur Weiss was the Librarian Emeritus of the United States Military Academy and a pioneer in information technology. Egon emigrated to NYC after Hitler invaded Austria in 1938. Drafted into the Army in '42, he was trained as an interrogator at Camp Ritchie, MD. He was assigned to U.S. Army Seventh Corps & applied his German & French language skills during the Battle of the Bulge, liberation of concentration camps and in post war Germany. He retired from US Army Reserve Civil Affairs in '69 as Lt. Colonel. After WWII, he graduated from Harvard University in '47 with a B.A. in Economics. He earned a M.A. in Germanic Languages from Boston University & a Master of Science in Library Science from Simmons College. Egon spent more than half a century in library administration, rare books preservation & special collections. He began his career at West Point in '58 as Assistant Librarian & then as Library Director from '62 until he retired in '87. He was renowned for an erudite and witty sense of humor. After retiring from West Point, Egon remained active in libraries in Cornwall, NY, Carlsbad, CA & University of California, San Diego. He served as trustee of the David Library of the American Revolution, '86-'99. This third edition should not be considered as surpassed by subsequent editions. It stands as a major research in, and of, its own right. This third edition documents what was known to be available to knowledgeable researchers at the beginning of the last quarter of the 20th Century. This third edition marks the first recognition of important subfields in military history bibliography, such as order of battles, lineages, statistics, and guide books. Thus it is a magnificent and major marker in the maturation of military history historiography as well as bibliography.
