About the Author
Elmer Keith (1899-1984) was a rancher, hunting guide, and firearms author who spent his whole life among the big game of the Western states and the Rocky Mountains. He played a key role in the development the .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, and .44 Magnum cartridges and also developed his own style of semi-wadcutter bullet for handguns that became widely popular for both hunting and target shooting. Through his books and articles, Elmer Keith influenced and informed a generation of hunters and handgunners—he truly was one of the major figures in the firearms developments of the 20th century.
