Big Machines (Rookie Reader)

Land ho! These tractors, backhoes, pavers, and tall cranes are hard at work.

Rookie Readers (Ages 5-7) have provided entertaining, high-quality introductions to reading for more than a generation. Each title features full-color, often hilarious illustrations and engaging stories that always involve a young child figuring out concepts or solving problems on his or her own. Kids can watch them do their jobs in the farmlands of America and on big construction sites.

Melanie Davis Jones grew up on a farm in Georgia. While living on the farm, she saw her father drive tractors, combines, backhoes, and many other big machines. Mrs. Jones is now a teacher and children's author. She and her husband also build houses. While they build the houses, her sons love to play in the dirt and watch big machines at work. That is what inspired this book. She lives in Warner Robins, Georgia. She has also written Balls in A Rookie Reader series.
