Bigotry And Intolerance Defeated; Or, An Account Of The Late Prosecution Of Mr. John Gisburne. With A Exposure And Correction Of The Defects And Mistakes Of Mr. A. Fuller's Narrative Of That Affair by Robert Aspland. This 1810 pamphlet presents a multi?part rebuttal to Andrew Fuller’s Narrative concerning the prosecution of John Gisburne, a Unitarian minister in Soham, Cambridge?shire. It compiles a sequence of letters and accounts (Letters I–VII) that detail the disturbances at Soham, the ensuing Cambridge indictment, and attempts at arbitration, followed by arguments over the repayment of costs and the charge of persecution. Across the letters, Aspland argues for religious liberty, critiques the misuse of penal laws in matters of conscience, defends Gisburne’s conduct, and exposes what he deems misrepresentations in Fuller’s account and in the Monthly Repository. The work also includes reflections on the role of dissenting congregations, the majority’s rights, and the responsibilities of religious leaders in disputes, offering a historically grounded, polemical defense of Unitarian principles in early 19th?century England.
