Biodiversity Conservation: Issues and Challenges

Biodiversity has different functional dimensions manifested in variation of climate change, land use pattern, flora and fauna. The functional aspects of biodiversity are multidimensional in nature. The functional aspects of biodiversity have been reflected in economic valuations, species, richness and structural complexity. In this book, different scientists of the country have presented their research articles on conservation and cultivation of medicinal plants, use of medicinal plants as traditional food, biodiversity conservation for livelihood, role of non-timber forest products in biodiversity conservation, viable alternatives to shifting cultivation, traditional nomenclature practices of pastoralists communities, implementation of Forest Rights Act, 2006, application of traditional knowledge for biodiversity conservation and participatory biodiversity conservation. The scientists have validated that changing land use in forest areas have damaged and degraded landscape and eroded biodiversity. Most of the researches have focused on community dynamics in context of ecosystem services. The changes in land use pattern and adopting alternative pathways for flow of resources have led to serious damage in ecosystem services and biodiversity.
