About this Item

27pp. Thin octavo [23 cm] Stapled tan and black printed wraps. The frontispiece image of James Bridger has been traced over with pencil. Very good. The wraps are very slightly age-toned and creased. The rear wrap is mildly stained. There is a 1/2 inch tear in the wraps at the foot of the spine. There is a previous owner's name on the verso of the frontispiece. The fold-out plate is almost completely detached. There are 4 small abraded areas in the inside margins of the title page and the fold-out plate. There are very light stains on the pages. The largest stains measure 2 inches wide by 2 inches tall at the tallest point. There is a small chip in the bottom edge of the last page. Tanned pages. From the text- "At this late day it is a very difficult undertaking to attempt to write a connected history of a man who spent a long life on the plains and in the mountains, performing deeds and rendering services of inestimable value to this country, but who, withal, was so modest that he has not bequeathed to his descendants one written word concerning the stirring events which filled his active and useful life.".
